Transition Planning for Military Families:

At our school, we understand that military families often face unique challenges related to transitions. That's why we offer comprehensive transition planning tailored to the needs of military children and their families. We have a group of student leaders to assist with tours and ensuring a smooth transition for our military families. Our Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLAC) plays a crucial role in supporting military students.

The MFLAC counselor regularly checks in on students to provide guidance and emotional support, helping them navigate the ups and downs of military life. Deniece Moss, Bridgett Miller, Clay Jordan, Amanda Stephens, or Jennifer Jimenez are always available to assist military families. You can reach them at (850) 767-1850.

Academic Planning for Military Families:

Academic planning for military families is a priority for us. During the summer, we offer one-on-one meetings with our School Counselor to discuss academic schedules, ensure a smooth transition for incoming military students and provide tours to ensure families feel part of our West Bay Family. These meetings help tailor academic planning to the unique needs and goals of military students, ensuring they receive the necessary support and resources to succeed in their educational journey.

Resources for Military Families:

We believe in providing military children with a well-rounded educational experience. Our students have opportunities to participate in various extracurricular activities, including Baton Lesson, FCA Kids Club, and Tutoring. These activities foster personal growth and help military students connect with peers who share similar interests, creating a sense of belonging and community

Student-Led Transition Team (S2S Club):

Our Student-to-Student Team is vital in helping military students transition to West Bay. This student-led team offers guided tours of the school, introduces new students to their teachers, and provides a supportive network to ensure a smooth integration into our school community. The scholars are enthusiastic about welcoming their fellow military peers and helping them adapt to their new academic environment. The front office provides a folder with the names of scholars on this team and a map for tours.

Support for Military ESE Children:

We understand that military children with exceptional needs require specific support. We offer personalized assistance for these students, including meetings with our ESE Resource teacher to review Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Our Learning Lab is a valuable resource for academic support, ensuring that military ESE children receive the required specialized education.

Military Recognition Events:

Our school is committed to recognizing and honoring our military families. We have planned events like "Purple Up Day" and special ceremonies to honor both active duty and retired military parents. These events serve as a token of our appreciation for the sacrifices military families make and provide a platform for our school community to express their gratitude and include events like our military scholars being sponsored by our VFW for book fair books and Christmas activities.

Mental Health Resources For Military Families:

We understand that the well-being of military children is a top priority. To support their mental health, students can access TRIAD Counselors, a School Counselor, and our school therapy dog, Murphy, who can provide counseling and emotional support. We aim to ensure that every military child on our campus has the resources they need to maintain their mental and emotional well-being. In summary, our school is deeply committed to providing military children and their families with the support they require to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We aim to make their educational journey as smooth as possible and express our gratitude for their service through various recognition events and support services.
